Success Story

Born in Copper Cliff on July 29, 1931, Jerry Toppazzini played for both St. Catherine's and the Barrie Flyers of the OHA and Hershey of the AHL. After spending the 1951-1952 season with the Bears, he followed his brother Zellio and joined the Boston Bruins where he scored 10 goals in his inaugural NHL campaign. After brief stints with both the Chicago Black Hawks and Detroit Red Wings, the right winger returned to the Bruins in a January 17, 1956 trade and remained a fixture with the club for the next eight seasons. A model of consistency, "Topper" surpassed the 20 goal plateau on 2 separate occasions including a single-season high of 25 during the '57-'58 season. In total, he scored 163 goals and had 244 assists in 783 career games and played in the 1955, 1958 and 1959 All-Star games
